The search for perfection in the use of diamond tools on CNC machines now has a major new ally. It’s called ADI Zero, and it’s a device developed by Zoller (a company that has spent almost 100 years designing and developing tool measuring machines, mainly for the mechanical sector) exclusively for ADI – Surfaces Group. The aim of ADI Zero is to provide very high precision measurement of diamond tools and send tool setting instructions directly to the CNC machine automatically.
ADI Zero is used ever more successfully for measurement of mechanical engineering tools and of tools for processing stone and glass. ADI Zero rapidly scans the tool profile, supplying the full spectrum of tool usage information in a matter of seconds. While tool setting using conventional methods used to take up to 5 hours, today ADI Zero makes it possible to perform the procedure in just 15 minutes, offline and with far higher levels of accuracy. ADI Zero can also provide advance calculation of stock removal, i.e. the quantity of material to be removed per position, making it possible to make the appropriate adjustments.
Thanks to the elimination of machine downtimes, operator time for tool setting, the risk of tool damage, and the margin of error, the benefits of ADI Zero can be summarised in a rise in productivity of as much as 30-40% and in a very significant extension of the average life of abrasive tools.
