All thanks to Surfaces Group and work in tandem with a mix of Surfaces T.A. and Luna Abrasivi tools, to deliver an extremely smooth, matt satin effect via two processes:
- better preparation of the surface for treatment, which is polished with new-generation diamond resin-bond tools to prepare the surface perfectly for the satin finishing process.
- the satin finishing treatment removes all visible flaws while keeping the level of gloss very low.
The market’s preference for matt surfaces has changed the ceramic satin finishing process, with the design of new, specific resin-bond tools that improve not only the tile’s final appearance, but also the initial cleaning stage.
The drawback of traditional tools was that they were unable to remove all visible signs left by the polishing process, and if the degree of gloss was kept low, often the satin finishing left visible shadows on the surface.
Surfaces Technological Abrasives has come up with a combination of tools that overcome these problems. First the surface is polished with no risk of leaving scratches visible to the naked eye, and then the new Luna Abrasivi satin finishing tools complete the job to perfection, creating a flawless surface with gloss of no more than 10-20 units. The combination provides a sharply improved initial tile quality and considerably better finishing, with no shadows.
The tools will be available in standard version without elastic binder and in FLEX version, more popular with operators since they can be fitted on any type of machine and adapt completely to any surface.
Depending on processing requirements there are three different types of Luna Abrasivi Satin Finishing tools for preparatory treatment machines, with different formats depending on the surface characteristics and the required effect:
- SAT DOT FLEX with pointed sections with varying degrees of rigidity
- SAT DASH FLEX with medium-sized segmented sections
- SAT TRIS FLEX in continuous lines for uniform surfaces
The different shapes allow the tile to be processed as appropriate to the required result and the type of tile surface concerned.
These tools are therefore suitable for the entire range, from extremely flat, polished to structured, uneven surfaces. Here again, the Luna Abrasivi Satin Finishing tools are designed to provide the greatest possible efficiency, smoothing rough areas and creating a soft surface. With very low gloss levels always guaranteed.
A specific test with SAT DASH revealed that its use did not just keep the gloss level very low at 7-10 units but also, thanks to the successive use of production formulae with different specifications and specific tool mounts, delivered a completely shadow-free surface.
